The Quiksilver X Red Bull Downtown Snow Jam brings Snowboarding to Shanghai
(Shanghai) November 23rd, 2007 – Quiksilver and Red Bull set the evening sky over Xujiahui ablaze on November 24th and 25th with a flurry of boardriding, winter fashion, and live music. The Quiksilver X Red Bull Nanshan Open took stage in front the Grand Gateway Mall, where a crew of snowboarders charged a snowy slope for the first downtown snow event in Shanghai. Local celebrity rock star Yu Siyuan also rocked the night with a live set during Saturday evening. Quiksilver and Roxy fans in Shanghai were presented with an experience of snowboarding, halfpipe skateboarding, and live music…all fueled by supporting sponsor Red Bull.
MC Zhu Zhen led the ceremonies of the weekend-long boardriding festival in Xujiahui. The Quiksilver Snowboard Team from Beijing put on a professional demonstration on a man made slope covered in snow brought in from the Qixing Indoor Ski Resort. Different from traditional snowboarding on a snowy mountain, the Downtown Snow Jam at Grand Gateway made use of a metal box fixed to a snowy man-made slope. The Quiksilver Snow Team performed street-style tricks more akin to skateboarding, where riders slid across the box spinning 270 and landing right in front of the crowd. Red Bull also put on games and activities for kids and parents walking by Grand Gateway Mall.
Quiksilver and Red Bull are continuing to build on a growing sponsorship cooperation. Over the past few years Quiksilver and Red Bull have worked together on professional surf, skate and snow competitions in Europe, Africa and America. Also, Quiksilver athletes can be seen on TV sporting the Red Bull logo on their boards and helmets. Quiksilver, as the world’s most fashionable boardsports inspired apparel brand, and Red Bull as the most popular energy drink, promote boardsports such as snowboarding and skateboarding as the core of their brand image. By bringing snowboarding to downtown Shanghai for the first time, Quiksilver and Red Bull yet again stake claim as leaders in the apparel and sports market.
Quiksilver and Roxy presented the new winter line during the Grand Gateway event this past weekend. Most notable among the new winter styles is a new selection of high tech snow gear from Quiksilver and Roxy, which the Snow Team were wearing on the slope. Besides snow gear, Roxy models were also rocking the stage in striking colors and original fabrics, such as worker style denim overalls, fur-lined hoodies, and satin military style jackets. The Quiksilver models presented a new line of denim bottoms in an array of washes, as well as stylish fleece outers and sweaters. Quiksilver and Roxy also showed off a new range of travel bags, original backpacks, and a variety of accessories such as scarves and winter hats for the coming winter months.
On Saturday and Sunday, Red Bull and Quiksilver put on a snowball throwing contest, where locals had a real chance to experience snow, even though the weather was sunny and warm. Also on site was a Red Bull Nanshan Open photo exhibition. Red Bull and Quiksilver set a precedent in China by sponsoring the Nanshan Open Snowboard Competition in 2006. The 5th Red Bull Nanshan Open invited over 30 international snowboarders from around the world to converge in Beijing for the largest snowboard contest in China. Photos and video were on display of last year’s contest in Beijing, as well as an introduction to the 6th Red Bull Nanshan Open taking place in Beijing on January 5th and 6th, 2008.
During the second show on Saturday, November 24th at 4:30, Shanghainese rock star Yu Siyuan performed a live set for all his fans. Yu Siyuan, with his punk rock style fashion and music style, has taken part in X Game performances in the past. In May of 2007, Yu Siyuan was the headlining act of the ESPN X Games contest in Shanghai.
